Analyzing Healthcare Data for HealthStat involves a comprehensive analysis of patient data on elective hip replacement surgeries across New York state. The process begins with data import, exploratory analysis, and cleaning to ensure consistency. Key measures are created to analyze hospital totals, summarize patient discharges, and explore demographics such as gender and age. Calculations of average length of stay (LOS) and average cost per discharge are performed, with comparative analysis across hospitals factoring in surgeon numbers. Metrics quantify the difference between each hospital’s average cost per discharge and LOS compared to the state average, with outliers identified using a dynamic quadrant chart. A proxy table for total elective surgeries is created and joined to the master data table to investigate root causes impacting cost and LOS using the Key Influencers visual. The final dashboard integrates HealthStat branding, featuring "LOS Comparison" and "Cost Comparison" pages with customized slicers, a hospital profile dashboard for deep dives, and a home page for easy navigation. This case study offers hands-on experience with Power BI, focusing on real-world applications in healthcare data analysis to help HealthStat make informed, strategic decisions.
